Form: High-back side chair / parlor chair
Description: An elaborately carved rosewood high-back side chair, the pierced back centered by fruiting grapevines and scrolling foliage within architectural stiles and surmounted by a floral and scroll-carved crest. The later red velvet seat rises above a carved seat rail and pierced scrolling front stretcher, on turned legs ending in casters. No maker’s label or mark has been observed; the attribution is based upon its design, materials, and carving vocabulary.
Dimensions: 45 in. H; 20 in. W; 19 in. D; seat height 16 in.

Condition: Age-appropriate wear with scratches, abrasions and finish variation. Scattered minor losses and possible old repairs within the intricate pierced carving. Later red velvet upholstery with pile variation, marks and light soiling. Casters have wear and oxidation. Joinery and seat foundation stable.
