Form: Marble-top dressing bureau with mirror
Description: An elaborate American late Victorian dressing bureau with a serpentine ebonized case extensively decorated with mother-of-pearl and possibly abalone shell floral inlay, gilt arabesques, polychrome flowers, and fine linear borders. Two upper drawers and three broad lower drawers retain ornate brass pulls and shell-decorated escutcheons beneath a shaped white marble top. The detachable mirror has a shaped plate within an elaborate pierced crest and scrolling supports repeating the suite ornament. A former label is indicated by its surviving outline and fasteners on the reverse. Part of a coordinated bedroom suite offered as Lots 78A-78E.
Dimensions: Case 48.5 in. H, 66 in. W, 24 in. D. Overall height with mirror pending.

Condition: Retains an old ebonized and decorated surface with scratches, abrasions, edge wear, craquelure, fading, scattered retouching, paint loss, and surface irregularities. Shell inlay exhibits scattered losses, lifting, and irregularities. Marble has scratches, staining, discoloration, and edge wear. A former label on the reverse is missing, leaving its outline and fasteners.
